Tires and more...

After reviewing the archives and talking with the salesman at Discount tire, I bought a set of Dunlop SP 8000's to replace the original Michelins on my '99 9-3 base model. The original tires were 195/60-15 and I replaced them with 205/55-15. The diameter of the 2 tires is pretty close and the 205's are a bit wider.
Handling with the new tires, which are Z rated, is better and the ride feels the same. The price was right. I recommend the Dunlops. It's probably not a good winter tire but I live in So. California.
Now, 2 rants. The first is about the steering wheel. The leather wrapping wears smooth before too long. It feel OK when smooth, but is not as grippy as when it was new. Our other vehicle (an A4) also has a leather steering wheel, and it is almost like new after 110,000 miles and 4.5 years.
Finally, some of those GM commercials are an insult to one's intelligence. You know the ones I'm talking about. They're "cute" and don't have much substance. GM has been doing this for years, but one of the recent ones involves police in an Impala chasing the bad guys. This is bad stuff. They need to change it (along with their cars). Maybe Mr. Lutz can look into it.
