and its also smart enough to know that if the top is down, then unless the key is in the ignition, you can't press the trunk release button on the driver's door to open the trunk. (took me about 5 months of cursing my 2001 convertible before i realized that this is a security measure to prevent folks from easily opening your trunk when the top is down the the button exposed)...
