the age old debate on which of the top three is the best. The only answer is...what radar bands do "your" local cops use. Central Florida bacon seem to be partial to a blend of K and KA with a light sprinkling of Laser. Since KA is the most commonly utilized band, I chose the BEL 980 and it hasn't failed me once in the past two years. A couple of my buddies however ('93 Porsche 911 and '9? BMW M3) swear by their Val 1's mostly because of the directional indicators/counter which I must admit are pretty cool. Thing is, they're so used to it picking up automatic door electric eyes (X Band) in town, they don't pay as close attention to it as they should. Valentine 1 is most profficient in detecting X Band which was popular amongst local precincts about 5-8 years ago and is slowly dwindling (except for po-dunk areas where they haven't upgraded speed trap technology). I'm not blaming the Valentine 1, as it may just be the driving techniques that my friends incorporate into their daily commute, but they've both been nailed with KA and never saw it coming. Instant on? Who knows. The Porsche guy has also been busted with laser, but that's just because he refuses to stay behind a good "front door". I, on the other hand, am informed of KA and K speed traps for what seems like MILES, the Bel falses very infrequently (programmable) and I've just never had much use for directional indicators. If I pick-up a strong signal from ANYTHING, I'm smart enough to slow down without giving a damn where it's coming from.
