I removed mine a few months ago right after I got my '99 93 base. It frees up 3/8" or so of ;egroom, but not a huge amount. (The wheel well is the problem, It pops off easilty with a gentle pry with a putty knife. (Pry straight away from the carpet alternating between the top and bottom of te pedal so it comes out straight)
I ended up putiing it back in to protect the carpet and cover the holes. As I've gotten used to the car and the seating position, I find I don't mind the deadpedal.
I'm thinking of adding a 1/2" pedal extender to the gas pedal (allows heel&toe downshifting and brings the gas pedal up closer to the brake & clutch. I'll post how that works.
