Valve tap?

I have spent a few quite happy weeks with my new (99) saab 9-3. I notice that when I’m home or done driving, when I put it in park, there is a light tap coming from the transmission hump or behind the dash. I rev to around 2000 and it quiets down. From the outside of the car, even with the hood up, I cannot hear the (valve tap?) The car has 17,000 miles. Is this normal, as it is my first saab?
