Yeah, sounds like a bad wheel balance to me too. If they weren't rotated, then maybe they just knocked a balance weight off the front tire while inspecting the front brakes. I'd be surprised if they didn't take a peek, which would require removing/handling the wheel.
Other possible or odd causes are warped front rotor, loose wheel (check the lug nuts), or a longshot... a mis-mounted rotor, jarred out of place... this actually happened to me on a non-Saab.
