I went fron the NG900 to the 9-3 also (automatics). I did 2 things on the 9-3.. First, I simply removed the footrest--it does twist off. Second, I got pedal extenders--it moves you back 2-3 inches, so you have MUCH more room to stretch you left leg. The only negative is now you're a bit further away from the steering wheel, but it's probably safer anyway (farther from airbag).

Pedal extenders DEFINITELY worth it--otherwise, I was considering a 9-5 just for the added space and comfort....
