At 17k miles on my 2000 Viggen, I’ve been through 2 sets of tires, now looking for my third. I liked the original equip'd Dunlops for about the 1st 5k miles, then they seemed to lose their stickiness quite rapidly.

I bought M. Pilot Sports based on advice from V. Flight Academy instructors. Did not like them as they slip and squeal more than the previous tires, and did not seem to instill as much confidence in the corners as the Dunlops. Also, they are terrible at temps below 50 F – even after you drive on them and try to heat them up. They were terribly expensive for just OK performance. I have seen them come down significantly in price lately, but I would not buy them a second time.

My next purchase will be Pirelli’s (PZero Asimmetrico or PZero Nero.) I also have heard really good things about the Yokos and the S-03 Potenzas.

Unfortunately, you have to bite the bullet, make a purchase and see what you think. Furthermore, your choice may make a huge difference in the "hard-off-the-line" control in the front steering where the traction control systems starts that annoying "sense and hunt" so many owners name torque steer. My experience is that the more traction you have, the better off you are with hard acceleration control in 1st and 2nd. I went a step further and put in the Abbott Viggen Rescue Kit, but it only works when matched with good sticky tires.

I hope this helps.

Best,
Kevin
