Rob,
I've learned a lot from this board. I have a 99 9-3 SE with the T-5. Yes, it is more mod-friendly, and a MBC can be used to increase boost up to about 15.5 PSI (learned this from the board) before fuel cut-off takes over. I will be upgrading to the Viggen intercooler shortly, along with doing other mods.
I personally have had good luck w/ saabs. Before this car, i had an 88 SPG, but it got totalled when I got rear ended. some people will argue with me, but whatever.
I beleive there are aftermarket clutch kits out there for these cars, as far as driveshafts, not yet. Dunno if its needed.
I'm in the same boat as you - I also have a '73 Frod Bronco (reso project) The saab is my runner and it's a blast to commute in.
Keep coming back to this site - you can learn a ton of stuff...
