I have a '97 900S with 85K and am highly considering a '99 9-3 midniteblue at a dealer that came off lease with 37K for only $13K. I think it has been sitting around and they are looking to dump it, so I'm aware the price is way below the norm. They are a legit Saab dealer and I trust them well. I test drove it and it is mint shape. The only problem I see and maybe the reason it has been sitting around is the passenger door has a noticeable 3"x3' area where it looks like somebody used rubbing compound on a scratch. It is enough to give me second thoughts.
I bought my '97 with the intent on keeping it for many years, running it into the ground and not to be saddled with payemnts constantly, so my reasoning on even considering a new car is stupid. With that said, I don't expect anybody to hand hold me through my decision, but with the expected mechanical costs I will start to experience with the '97, does it really make perfect sense to get the lower milage and newer car? I already have problems with the AC/fan which may or may not be the resistor pack on the fan motor, the headlite wipers don't work, I will need 4 new tires soon, brakes are squealing so maybe new ones, rear defrost is shot, rear window squirter is gone, etc. I see around $1,000 in costs and that's not even for the headlite wipers or if it is the AC compressor. For what it is worth, I only put on 12K/yr. Any other general comments on upgrading, etc.?
Much appreciated.
