I called saab customer service yesterday to voice my concerns about the numerous bent rims and excessive tire wear that I have experienced with my viggen. The rep. said that he had no idea how to respond and couldn't connect me to anyone who could help me because "all the supervisors had left early for the day because it was trick or treat day". He said he would call me back which he did today.
He said that he had discussed my concern with his supervisor and saab is now recommending customers replace their 17" rims with 16"rims and go with a higher profile tire to avoid this type of ongoing problem. He said that they have received numerous complaints about this issue so basically "join the crowd". When I asked if he was willing to pay for the new rims and tires -needless to say I got a long pause which I interpreted as a "no".
Does anyone know if this is possible with a viggen and if so where would one go to purchase these at a reasonable price and not compromise the look of the car as far as the style of the rims go? Any recommendations on type of higher profile tires that can handle a lot of day-to-day driving?
Does anyone know if you are leasing a viggen would you have to return the car with 17" rims and the low profile tires if you choose to follow the customer service rep's recommendation to go to 16" rims and the higher profile tires?
Also I thought it was interesting that this rep and his supervisor told me that Saab customer service folks have been instructed by their supervisors not to comment on any tire or 17" rim damage - this rep and his supervisor said that their hands are tied by a lawsuit and they can offer no assistance or remedy to this issue aside from offering customers a 1-800 number to call to get a prerecorded message about a class action suit involving the tire and rim issue. I was also told by Saab that I should secure the services of an attorney if I wish to pursue this and receive any sort of timely response from a claims administrator for this suit.
I don't have any intentions of getting rid of my saab - overall its an excellent vehicle. Just would like to fix the rim and tire problem so I can drive it from time-to-time without the worry of bending a rim. If going to the 16"rim and higher profile tires will help, I am willing to do this.
