seach the boards, but here's a general run down;
1. Relieve tension from the wiper arms by placing them in the "up" position. Remove the little cap covering the nut and unscrew the nut. The arm should now release with just a bit of wiggling. NOTE: the driver side arm is best worked on with the hood up and the arm inside the hood (if I remember correctly). Store the arms out of the way.
2. Remove the rubber strip at the front of the firewall that prevent dirt from entering the engine bay. I should slide up and off.
3. Notice the two clips that hold the primary shroud against the top of the firewall. Unhook the windshield wash fluid line where it enters the primary shroud (from the hood). Release the clips on the primary shroud (one on each side) and ease the shroud down and away from the windshield seal. Store out of the way.
4. Next remove the secondary shroud paying attention to how it fits into the space (it's unidirectional and is designed to route water away from the air intake). Store out of the way.
5. Note the old air filter and the massive amount of crap buildup around and on top of it. I recommend cleaning the entire area with your shopvac prior to removing the fiter. The filter is clipped into place at the short ends. The new filter is installed unidirectionally (note the black tab on the filter and the notch on the box.
6. Reverse steps one through four to reinstall everything.
NOTE: some people find it useful to mark the original location of the wiper blades on the windshield for reinstallation. Not necessary in my mind. I simply eyeball it based on the residual grime on the windshield (kidding . . . but you can usually tell where they rest even on a clean windshield).
While it sounds like you've already purchased a new filter, keep in mind that if your replacement is a genuine Saab cabin air filter it can be cleaned once or twice with a little soap and water and reused. There are cheap replacement filters on the market that are a bit more on the disposable side.
good luck . . . it's easy and fun!
