Its not the popularization of a TYPE of car. Its the car.
You guys think just like American auto makers.
Its the car. If its scores high combined marks in:
performance, features, looks, price,
Then, it will sell, and sell well. Saying the Saab 9-3 doesn't sell because it is a hatch back is just unfair. It is an unattractive looking hatch back that is priced high. There are several hatch-backs (Acura Integra as example) that sell quite well, even in America.
GM gave the excuse that the 2-door sport cars are dead, so they can kill off the Firebird/Camero. In the mean time, Mustangs are selling well, and import brands are selling more and more 2 door coupes. The Firebird/Cameros are just crap. Just sit in one. Its like the designers were stuck in a time warp.
Look at wagons. The nice ones are selling well. The ugly/overpriced ones will not. People think that "wagons are back" because they see so many. Its not that. Its because one or two manufacturer puts out a really really good wagon, and sold well, so other manufacturers copy/improve upon the formula, and generally sell pretty well (assuming they did a good job).
This will give the impression that "Wagons are back". In fact, people have always wanted a wagon.....if there was a good wagon to buy.
Another example is the "SUV craze". People have always loved SUVs, but in the pass, SUVs (Broncos, Jeeps) were bad on fuel, ugly, and rough driving, so most people avoided them. Now, people can get ones that is ok on fuel, nice looking, and drives just like a car, so they buy them. Its not a "sudden influcation with SUV" like the media would like to have people believe. A reverse example is Isuzu. They were a pioneer in the modern SUV market. They just announced that they lost billion$$ this year and stop selling SUVs. Is the SUV market dead?
