Hi,
GM should have allowed Saturn to build better cars. The engineers and
factory workers of Saturn were willing and able to do a good job, and
when Saturn came out and essentially said "We CARE about what we do ...
we tighten ALL the bolts." in the eighties, it really struck a chord with
the American public which was used to sloppy and slovenly workmanship
and design from domestic automobiles.
Saturn should have been allowed to replace the S-series with a more
competent automobile sooner. Even when I bought my SC2 in 1998, it was
a little long in the tooth. Also, for the longest time, Saturn did not
get the funding it wanted for new product development because of the
misguided "Save Oldsmobile" strategy of GM. GM thought that Saturn
owners would move up to Oldsmobile. Instead, a lot of us bought European
makes.
My Saturn SC2 was a great car for the money. There is no doubt about
it.
thanks
Jae
