I have three Rottweilers and a German Shepherdx - about 380lbs of combined dog. I have a 4-door 9-3 Viggen, which was supposed to be a "dog free zone" (I also have a truck) but I caved in about day three and got a sturdy, dog-proof seat protector for the back seat. I've had one Rottie in the back seat, two with the seat down. Absolutely no problem, except for the inevitable nose prints on the windows.
The seat cover I got has openings for the rear seatbelts, if you belt your dogs in. I'm not sure about a barrier though - I think you need two vehicles. :) Or a Saab wagon.
