I'm in the market for a late model 9-3 and was wondering what the group's experience was with extended warranties. The Saab dealer I've been talking to says that a Saab certified car gets a two year extension on the manufacturer's warranty that is "bumper to bumper" yet when you read the brouchure that Saab puts out it says there are "exclusions," some are obvious (tires, battery, etc.), others are a little troubling and potentially expensive (like the clutch).

Also, we have a very reputable "independent" dealer and repair shop in our area that offers a certified program with a Wynn's extended warranty. Any thoughts or experience here?

Finally, does it make more sense to buy a higher mileage "lease turnback" (which I assume had rigorous maintenance requirements) or a low mileage car that someone owned? In other words, is there any chance Saab would not honor a warranty if the previous owner was negligent?

I maintain my cars religously and am willing to DIY or pay for it. I'm just trying to minimize expensive "surprises."
