First of all, if you have any questions about the supplier plan, you should call SAAB USA at 1-800-955-9007. I had some questions regarding the GM supplier plan vs. the $399/mo. ad in the papers here is So. Fla.

The folks at SAAB faxed me a full supplier (and employee) price list. The prices agreed to the figures listed on the invoice. Then it was just simply a matter of getting them to throw in an armrest.

Bottom line is that we figured the supplier discount is worth about $1,000 to $1,500 over the advertised special. Not sure whether you are looking at a 36 or 48 month lease in your post. However, I would recommend you go with a 36 mo. lease. Money factor is only 0.00032 on the 36 month lease -- less than 1%! I figured the payment at only $30/mo. cheaper for 48 over 36. That's because residual drops 7% that 4th year. Not worth the difference.

Why? Because any cash laid out is gone if anything happens to the car, even with gap insurance. If the car is stolen or totalled, the gap insurance will pay the difference between the value of the car and your lease obligations. If you have paid money down, you are assuming some of that risk for nothing. You will not get any equity for that down payment, only lower your payment.

Since the price is set in stone, regardless of the down payment, you are not gaining any financial advantage by paying money down. Not worth the risk.

Take that $3k and put in a money market fund that will pay you about 1%. You'll wind up ahead. Not by much, but you can treat yourself to lunch with the difference.

Good luck
