I used several posts from this site to describe exactly what I wanted regarding DRLs when I picked up my US-spec 9-3 from the factory in Sweden last month. Now, the far right position turns off the lights entirely. The middle position turns on the parking/city lights (whichever you prefer to call them). And the far left position turns the lights on, just as you would inutitively hope from the design of the knob. The fogs work with both high and low beams but must have at least the parking/city lights on to be activated. In other words, you can't turn on the fogs with the knob in the far right position. By the way, I've seen that some people have noted dealer reluctance to disable DRLs, technically a safety feature. They had no qualms about doing it for me at the factory - they just wanted me to be happy with my new car.
