Everyone here has the right idea of being smooth and not riding the clutch any longer than necessary. Never balance the car on a hill using the clutch (using the clutch slipping to keep the car stopped on the hill - use the brakes!). Another thing I think a lot of people new to manuals do that is not necessary is down-shifting to slow down to a stop. Leave the car in whatever gear it is in until you slow down and then engage the clutch before stalling (say around 1000-1500 rpm). Brake pads are a lot cheaper than a new clutch. Anyone that tells you that you need to downshift to slow down the car is flat wrong. For performance driving I favor Alain Proust's method of shifting directly into the gear you need instead of shifting through all of the intermediate gears. For example, if I am in fifth and need to go into third, just shift into third and do not first shift into fourth. Heel and toe shifting is difficult in a viggen unless you are really slamming on the brakes. Also, learn to double clutch the car into first when you are moving (let the clutch out with the car in neutral, rev the engine, push clutch back in and shift into first). Otherwise, the viggen is a little tough to get back into first while moving. This won't help the clutch but does help the transmission.
