I have a 2000 9-3 SE with 50,250 miles on it. My wife and I were traveling to the mountains this morning from the piedmont of SC. It's a steep climb, but the Saab was cutting along just fine. We were in cruise control mode, in 5th gear, going about 75 mph. All of the sudden, the car shuttered. I shifted down and the car seemed fine. I figured it didn't like being in cruise while on an incline. We went about ten more miles to our exit. When we got off in the interstate and came to a stop, the car was loud and rough sounding. It sounded and drove like an old Volkswagen bug. Moreover, there was a loss of power. We were able to limp back home; however, during the trip back, the engine light came on. Consultation with the owner's manual states the problem is related to either fuel injection or the ignition system. I was able to get ahold of the master Saab tech at the dealership in Columbia, who says he thinks it's an ignition problem and is easy to fix.
I love my car. I love its smoothness and power. I want it back. What do you think the problem is and how much is it going to cost?
