We just brought our Arc home last night, the same day our good friend brought home his A4 1.8 Quattro (5spd).
We opted for the Auto (Sentronic). First things first, the Audi feels slightly "smaller" than the 9-3, but the H.O. engine blows the A4 away. I loved the feeling of the A4 interior, but its hard to compare it to the 9-3 interior. They are not similar and both have their niceties. I found them both to hug turns extremely, however the A4 might take this one when driving at high speeds (80mph+).
I feel overall the 9-3 is a bit more elegant and certainly more "luxury" feeling. It compares more to a BMW 3 series than it does the A4.
Treat yourself to the luxury of the 9-3 over the A4. Grab the 300 watt, 13 speaker system of the 9-3. Take the 10 airbags over the A4's 6 airbags.
Both have quite a few similar features such as "ESP", one touch sunroof, elegant climate control, cupholders galore, storage galore (however, the 9-3 has the chill-able glove compartment), "follow me home" feature, the "comfort" feature which alls you to roll down the windows/sunroof via the remote, the "locked in the trunk of a car" safety feature...
Drive them both a few times, settle on what you feel suits your needs. Take a look at some of my pictures of the 9-3 Arc.
I. Love. It.
