Two cars before my 9-3 I had a Porshe 944 Turbo which was modified to produce 365/395 (hp/tq) @ the wheels. At the time, I was also living with my roommate/Porsche mechanic who had a Protomotive 930TT (852HP @ the wheels - no joke!!!) which was ultimately stolen and never recovered.
Well, we've each moved on and gone our separate ways but got back in touch
yesterday and I went down to one of his shops to catch-up. He showed me
one of his new rides - a Porsche 993TT converted to two wheel drive and dyno'd at 522HP @ the wheels. I asked for the keys and off I went!
The raw power of this car is incredible!! With short gears, there is very
little lag and each gear simply rips your head off. With the large 19"
P-Zeros, there is no traction issues when the boost comes on. After doing
a 0-100 run coming onto the highway (if it took 8 seconds, I would have
been suprised) and then some 80-120 runs in very light traffic, I turned
around and headed back to the shop and gave the keys back. I was shaking
from the adrenaline rush for nearly two hours afterwards!
I have to admit, getting back into the 9-3 made me realize that it is no Porsche but as it was a gorgeous day and the top was down, I will always have something you can't get in a 993TT - the inexplicable joy from owning a convertible!
Regards,
Derek
