not sure on the issue at hand....my top is still pretty new and tight. but i do know that you should not stow the top for extended periods (as per the manual) what exactly is an extended period is a good question?? i always put mine back up over night, even if in the garage. IF it's got any moisture in it at all, it won't properly air out if it's folded down, and mold can set in.
I did once ask my dealer about top tightness because i had a loaner convertible and i noticed the top was tighter than mine (not that mine was loose or anything). They told me that there is a range of "normal" but that the top tightness was adjustable. They said that it wasn't necessarily a good thing (for top life) to just make it as tight as possible. I don't know the whys and wherefores on this. I would certainly ask you dealer to check it out and get their opinion next time your in.
