I know this hot topic has been beaten to death by previous posts. My concern is not whether it is covered by warranty but how simple is it for a novice like me to perform this operation. I purchased the oil from Taliaferro, I have most of the tools for the job and I'm willing to buy new as required. The directions from Taliaferro SAAB seem quite simple really.

1. Completely drain oil from gearbox
2. Fit drain plug and add 1.5 liter of new MTF 0063 fluid
3. With front wheels off the ground, start the engine, engage first gear and run for approx. 20 seconds.
4. Repeat steps 1-3.
5. Drain and refill with 1.5 liters of MTF 0063 fluid
6. Total fluid used for this process, including final fill is 4 ½ liters

I've done the following to my SAAB 9-3 covt:

Changed the oil several times
Changed Cabin Air Filter (as per directions from theSaabsite.com)
Changed broken fog lights too many times
Changed broken antenna mast (as per directions from theSaabsite.com)

What I fear most is needlessly damaging the transmission. However, I am in love with my car and really enjoy working on it. I'm sure you understand.

Here are some general questions I have:

1. Does the car need to be completely elevated? (all 4 wheels off the ground)
2. Do i need to use any lubricant to loosen and/or reinstall the drain, fill and check plugs?
3. How long does it take to completely drain the oil before adding the new?
4. When running the engine in step 3, should I engage all gears?

I thank you in advance for your time.

Happy Saabing
