Typical Edmund review of Saabs. I have driven an Audi A4 several times, which they applaud so willingly, and body roll is consistent with the Saabs or more in fact when I took it the limit. Edmund's reviewers are OK with car features, but not when it comes to performance and handling reviews. They just don't know how to review properly.

For a spot on review, check out the new Road and Track issue (October 2003), where they give the Vector high marks and applaud its shape, ride, handling and overall practicality, which is lacking in the usual German suspects (only the overall practicality part).

I quote from the last paragraph of the review:

"the 9-3 offers a very rewarding driving experience and can seat four adults comfortably-this may sound trivial, but many sedans in this midsize class can't do this."

"What's more the Saab delivers all this with an organic, flowing exterior that is a stylish breath of fresh air in a world of ever-increasing cookie-cutter designs. The new 9-3 Vectore rates right there up with my favorite and most enjoyable-to-drive cars of the category; the BMW 3-series, Cadillac CTS and Lexus IS300."

"There is also a good degree of feedback through the steering (better, in fact, than many competing sedans in this group), but there's an ever so slight disconnection with what is going on at the front wheels. The BMW 3-Series continues to set the standard in this area, but the 9-3 Vector is only a skosh behind it." High praise for a front-wheel drive sedan.

With a unprecedented 0.86 g of lateral accelartion for a Saab and a 64.8mph slalom, this car can competes well with others in this class in terms of performance, which maintaining a clear edge in terms of character and distinctiveness. Sure it is not perfect, but which car is then? I think Saab has more that closed the gap sufficiently with its German competition to make a case. Most of the Japanese( save the Infinity G35), don't come close when its come to style and character. That is why those sedans sells well, because they appeal to the average, non-discriminating buyer. Edmunds in my opinion, are the reviewers for the average person.
