although I have a little more time to decide.
I'm torn about this. On one hand, $2k is a lot to spend for some additional piece of mind. On the other hand, one major repair could easily run over $2k without the extended coverage.
One thing I'm worried about is passing on the coverage, but continuing the dealer service, and having them tell me "oh, your doo-hickey thingamabob is starting to go", when in reality, it's not nearly as bad as they make it out to be. With the extended warranty, that isn't as much of an issue.
Things I've been told about extended warranty coverage:
1) there is a deductable (I was quoted $100 per service attempt, unless it takes them more tries to fix the same problem...also, you can group several repairs into 1 trip, and still only pay $100)
2) you can do an easy payment plan for the extended warranty (divide cost by 12 months, 0% interest) so the actual cost is slightly less than $2k assuming that you take the $2k and earn minimal interest on it over the year.
3) the coverage isn't as good as the bumper-to-bumper coverage that you currently have. Read the fine print, and compare that against your current warranty.
Your situation may be different than mine, since you're in the US and I'm not. Overall, it's probably similar.
Let me know what you do!
Cheers,
Mark
