I have a 2003 9-3SS Linear with the Sport Launch and Touring packages, i.e. the same 17 inch wheels and suspension you have. I've found that Saab has tuned the TCS to be less invasive than many others. It allows a decent amount of wheelspin before kicking in. Also it is incorrect that TCS only works when there is a difference between the 2 wheels. I love it in the snow when coupled with good snow tires and I haven't found it obtrusive with the 225/45/R17s in the summer. A good test is to floor it in first in the rain. The symbol should light up in 1-2 seconds.
