I disagree, there is an error in Haynes Posted by Flemming W [Email] (#1798) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Flemming W) on Mon, 27 Oct 2003 00:31:39 In Reply to: Re: Is the solid or the stripe the positive speaker wire?, tturboboy, Sun, 26 Oct 2003 17:28:48 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have changed all 4 speakers, and did some investigation, both in Haynes and AllData, and real listening!
My observations are:
1. The connector marked '2' on the speaker wire connector is the POSITIVE. The '1' is NEGATIVE. This is confirmed by the diagrams in AllData and by others on this board.
2. In Haynes 1993-1998, the pos and neg is swapped for all 4 speakers, except Rear Left.
(Page 12.26, item 150, pos 7 and 8. There is no '1'/'2' numbering in Haynes).
Dramatic consequences:
- If you follow Haynes coloring for all speakers, you will get Rear Left out of phase.
- If you follow Haynes coloring for just changing the rear speakers, you will get Rear Right out of phase.
- Finally: if you use Haynes coloring for changing only front speakes, you will get front/rear out of phase.
Conclusion:
----------
I use the following color scheme, which is consistent with both AllData and the numbering on the connectors (and actual listening!):
Pos(2) Neg(1)
Rear Right Black/green Black/white
Rear Left Brown/white Brown (this is where Haynes
is 'double-wrong')
Front Right Brown/Black Brown/Red
Front Left Brown Brown/Grey
Note to tturboboy:
------------------
If you have followed Haynes color you should
- Either change the pos/neg on your Rear Left (then all 4 speakers are in same phase, but generally wrong. Could be a problem with extra doorspeakers.)
- Or do the rigth thing: change pos/neg on Front left/right and Rear right (then all 4 speakers are phased correct)
Best regards
