'99 Viggen (87k) I first posted about 6 months ago that I was getting a gurgling/turkey gobble sound (like a bad bearing) that was mostly audible that I could tell at idle. Had replaced my belt and idler pulley at around 75k. Figured it was one of the other pulleys. Sound would change noticebly while messing with 'Econ' button and turning on/off a/c, etc...
After months of this sound getting worse, purchased a mechanic's stethoscope and listened to each pulley as best I could. While listening to a/c compressor, this sounded like the culprit.
The last couple days there has been an 'electric' type of burning smell coming from the engine as well as the noise getting worse. I figure this puppy is about shot. Ordered a compressor from a junkyard off an '00 9-3.
Now to my question... Does this sound like the compressor is shot and I made the right purchase? and does anyone have any step-by-steps as to how to install the new a/c compressor? Thanks guys...
Chris
