This just happened to me last night. My wife calls me and tells me the car is dead in a parking lot....turns over but won't start. Saab Roadside Assistance (who was pretty good, by the way) tows the car to my dealer and we left it. The service manager called me this morning at 10am that the car is ready ,tells me the DI went out and that they replaced it under warranty. He told me that there is a service bulletin regarding a software update when installing a new DI casette on a T7 management system unit, supposedly letting it run somewhat cooler, etc. He also said that they replaced the spark plugs because a blown DI can toast the plugs. The car is a 2000 HOT with only 28,000, a real cream puff. From what I read on the board, there have been an inordinate amount of failures with these DI casettes and I consider my wife fortunate in that this happened in a parking lot rather than while moving. In 1990, the first year of the DI casette, it also failed on my new 9000 with only 5000 miles on the car at the time of failure. Even though last night's episode was covered under warranty, it still cost me money.....the car failed in the parking lot directly adjacent to the entrance of Nordstrum's shoe department. While waiting for the tow truck, my wife, who was depressed about her car, drowned her sorrows by treating herself to a pair of this spring's latest fashion offering.
