When Dean says SMBC he means "serial manual boost controller". It's basically an MBC connected in line with the actual SAAB BPV (boost pressure valve). You can search his past posts for the details on it.
I tried the Abbott MBC serially and it will only work if it's vented to the atmostphere which is just wrong. It works but I didn't like venting it to the atmosphere so I disconnected it. Dean is correct in that a ball-spring type is the way to go such as a Dawes. I'll have to get one and try it with my wife's Aero.
I like the anticipator idea but have yet to try it.
