SMBC install - help

I got my Dawes yesterday and I'm going to set it up this weekend. Two questions:
1. What's the safest/best way to remove the hose from the BPC? I have pulled and tugged and it won't budge. I really don't want to cut it if I can help it.
2. What's a safe initial setting for the SMBC install? The nut was loose when it arrived, so there really was no starting point. Do I adjst the red marked threaded area or just the other end?
Thanks for the help,
Brian
