Used Auto Goop to block hole as recommended. Picked up some 7/32 I.D. rubber vac hose for the MBC to BPC connection. Double zip-tied at both barbs of MBC as well.
Started low and worked up to the point where boost gauge began to show a slightly increased peak (not what I want), and then backed it down a tiny amount. Seems more sensitive than I thought it would be. Never got a CEL, just saw that boost was increasing and that's not what I'm after - though it was fun to try just that once!
Okay. I think I finally understand the function of the SMBC. Like many people here, I thought that boost would come on SOONER. But instead you get boost building up FASTER (think gauge needle rising much quicker) but beginning at the same RPM range. "Boost lag vs. Turbo lag" right Dean? So the beginning of the torque curve doesn't change as some have expected - only to be let down. But the time it takes the turbo to arrive at peak boost is quickened significantly. This is no small benefit.
I never hang on to 1st gear for long because it just feels so short and useless - can't get comfortable with it before I'm pushing redline, so I won't benefit much here from the SMBC, but 2nd and thereafter. peak boost is readily available where before there was a lag between gears as RPMs drop and turbo spools down. Very nice improvement indeed.
Thanks to Dean and Jeff for the help,
Brian
