Service notes--things to watch for Posted by Michael [Email] (#1365) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Michael) on Sat, 26 Jun 2004 20:16:32 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have read many posts on the oil tyoes, filters, etc, to buy good material to put in your car, etc.
Well I didn't want to change my own oil today, so I brought it to a Firestone Dealer who I have a lot of regard for. Great people,
I brought Mobil 1 and a Mann filter.
I usually don't like to hang around the service guy as he's working, but let me tell you, thanks to the info gleaned off this board, I stayed with the tech.
First thing he did, he took my material off the Front seat and laid them on his counter.
Then he jacked up the car etc.
Drained it, unscrewed the filter.
Then I saw him coming back with a CarQuest filter that he wanted to install.
I reminded him that I had brought the filter to be installed.
Then he reached for some bulk oil hose to pump in the oil. I again reminded him that the Mobil 1 to be used was on the counter--Oops he said; he had forgotten. So I unscrewed the tops and he poured in the Mobil 1.
The guy meant well for sure, and , he then looked at the Power Steering Fluid and wanted to add some fluid.
I told him that I didn't think that that power steering fluid was compatible with the power steering system.
I told him it was probably Ok to leave it as it was-- (there was not much missing) Then he wanted to open the coolant reservoir--I suggested to him that I was going to flush it soon so he shouldn't waste any material.
Real nice guy who meant very well and wanted to perform good service, but in so doing may inadvertently create some issues.
Just a note to be vigilant--and ensuring that the tech does what you wanted to have done.
