ESP is a major breakthough, I don't have it on my 1999 but it is a MUST HAVE for my next car. If you never get into trouble, the ESP will never act, but ESP has the ability to brake each wheel individually, i.e it has more more control then a rally driver. So it's kinda like having a driver much better then Sebastian Loeb ready to save your *utt when you mess up. Of course if you enter a 30 mph corner at 120, you're toast, but ESP may at least ensure you hit what you aim for on your way off. ESP uses yaw sensors to see if the car is following the path desired by the driver through the steering wheel, it not, it will differential brake to get the car on the desired path. It's an amazing system, but one should not "try" to access it's capabiities.
