There is more boost applied all across the rpm range, and even more boost in first and second gear. With the boost comes the requisite amount of extra fuel. In a T8 the boost will hit right before the red on the turbo gauge in first and second, and in third and higher it will go to the second notch of the red (factory software had the boost lower in all gears). Of course this can all be sensibly modulated with your right foot and even if you keep it out of the red there is noticeably more power all over the rpm range. My favorite area is fourth gear around 60 mph- when I get on it to pass someone the turbo kicks in explosively and you are doing 80 mph + in the blink of any eye.
