I have a 2000 9-3 base and the audio system has been the focus of my time and wallet lately. After researching many options such as component upgrades, I decided that just modifying some stock components worked the best.

First, I removed the rear grills and cut out the area where the speaker rests under. The stock grills were horrible for treble and mid reproduction. I then replaced the missing area with mesh speaker grills, which drastically improved the sound.

I also installed an Audiobahn ALUM8p competition sub in the trunk for a little extra punch. After that, I've been quite happy.

After asking around on the internet for the stock Saab amp and speakers for the door, I came up with a price around $200. Just waiting for the money now. Hope that helps...
