Fact is that car speakers come in 4 Ohms.
The reason the new speaker is sounding louder is that it has a better sensitivity. It is also more efficient.
If you want to cut down on the bass, you can first see if the lOUDNESS control is ON. Check your instruction manual on how to enable/disable the LOUDNESS control. Can't remember it off-hand, but it is in the SAAB manual.
If that doesn't do the trick, you can buy a set of speaker attenuators. But I personally found these to be a pain to fit somewhere. What I do is to turnn the BASS control a bit down when a tune has too much bass. Or I use the FADER control. Only problem with that is that the treble from the dash speakers also gets reduced.
As far as my choice of car speakers are concerned: JBL GTO series. Infinity might now own the JBL brandname, but the speakers are not quite the same. And after having smashed up a former neighbour glassware with set of JBL Studio monitors, I know what damage they can do!
