I'm stuck at Yellowstone National park (at a mechanic/gas station..).
I'm having my original pulley/belt shipped to me right now (it would take 1 or 2 days at least..)
In the mean time, I can't for the life of me find the post with the link to the picture for the belt routing. I found the instructions (thanks Dean!), but would really like to have the picture to be comfortable.. I found the 9-5 belt picture on genuinsaab... It looks similar...
Anyways, description of the problem:
I've driven probably 700miles 2 days in a roll, relatively warm day (85F).
then I drove 1 day ~600 miles, but up and down mountains (between Rushmore and Yellowstone NP). That was yesterday. During the evening, I heard some funny ticking/grinding noise in the idler/belt area. However, I looked at it and the belt and the idler pulley looked ok...
This morning, driving for about 1 hour inside yellowstone, the ticking noise got a little louder and suddenly (within 2-3 minutes), I hear a snap and warning lights went off (Battery and <!> lights). Lost power steering... Pulled over and pop the hood. Its the belt. The coolant was already boiling over the resovior cover.
The idler and belt was replaced at 60K miles. It is now just over 80K.
I inspected both belt and pully before the trip. I did not see any damage.
I know the car was very very warm under the hood during the past 3-4 days. Is that the cause?
I checked the other pulleys and they look ok, spinning freely (well, the ones that spin, spined...) Should I be looking for other damage? I stopped within 5 minutes of the snap, and the coolant temperature needle never went above red (or close to be) for 10 seconds before I turn off the car.
