Howdy,
6 weeks after replacing a bad fuel pump, my 95 v6 was running poorly then ran terribly and would even backfire thru the breather, never die completely, but max'd out at 5mph. I'd stop it and it would start ok and run ok for 3 minutes.
This turned out to be that the mech did not tighten the clamp on the hose at the pump. The fuel pressure would check ok then would fall from spec, like 50psi, down to 15psi, then go back up. I mention this as a follow-up because it was interesting to me to learn that a fuel starved engine will backfire into the breather. I paid $150 to the second mechanic and spent $120 replacing a crank position sensor myself which was not faulty. Expensive knowledge gained. cheers,
