It passed!!!

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions and offered advice. Kudos to Mark and Eric and those who said vacuum leak. Although in all fairness we left out a valuable piece of info- the brake booster was leaking. After replacing the plugs, vacuum lines to the TB, fixing a damaged air switching valve, and replacing the O2 sensor I finally got around to a hissing brake booster, which I believe was the real cause of the vacuum leak (it was really sucking air) causing the vechile to fail emissions. The no money fix was simply to plug the vacuum line. This leaves one without assisted braking but was workable for getting it to the shop and back. I believe the leaky brake booster to be the problem, however without getting it retested after each component fix it's hard to be sure what actually fixed it.

Interestingly, the HC and NO limits this time around were higher and our car's OLD values would have passed. I don't know if the limits increase when retesting or if something in the law has changed since our orginal test almost 3 weeks ago. In any case our car is legel and good for 2 years.

Thanks again for all the input. Saabnet is a unique and wonderful resource. Now, does anyone know how to rebuild a brake booster. First off, how do you get the darn thing apart without ruining it?
