$6.5k car retail, maybe. Probably optimistically $4k in trade, more likely less. KBB.com private party in good condition is $6k. $8,900 too high even for an SE. A very basic '99 9-3, it coulda been an 9-3SE, dual power seats, upgraded stereo, upgraded SID, wood on the dash, 16" wheels in which case the price would be about $1,500 closer, but still $1,500 too high. Nice car though, if you haven't been spoiled by the SE stuff.
I don't agree with the "don't take it to the dealer" line. I'd wanna' take the car to where it has been getting serviced, dealer or otherwise. Is the dealer perhaps already too familiar with the car? If there was a qualified Saab independent to take it to, that would probably make more sense than a dealer just because of the age of the car and because it's outa' warranty. The service department in most dealerships doesn't like the sales folks well enough to try and protect or promote them. Some dealers have over aggressive service departments that older cars don't respond well to, which is why an independent might be a better choice, but geez, for the kinda' money being asked for this Saab, it should sail through clean at any inpection anywhere.
