My CEL light came on and the dealer recommended the full meal deal: DEC, plugs ($25 each!), software upgrade for a cool $1,400 (CDN) ($1,000 for the DIC alone). The car was running fine. After I fired my dealer, I went to a local SAAB mechanic here in Vancouver (who could do the work including parts for about 1/2). By the time I drove to the mechanic's shop, the CEL went off, and the mechanic showed the codes as a "possible" faults in two cylinders. He suggested that I drive it until I start getting misfires, then do the replacement.
Its been one month, and now problems yet. Now I hear of a possible recall, which would be sweet. Not sure what the deal is, but something about this stinks. But I have no confidence in the dealer network anymore (earlier this summer they rebuilt my turbo (blue smoke at start up syndrome) for another $1,700.00. I freaked out and went postal on GM of Canada (via a letter expressing my total dissatisfaction). Haven't heard boo from them.
But better late than never if they own up to these chronic defects, but this is likely my last GM and SAAB.
