If it hasn't had new brakes yet, it may need them sometime in the near future. My viggen needed new rotors and pads after 30k miles, but other people get much better brake life. Cost will vary widely.
As bill mentioned, a troubled crankcase ventilation system can cause problems, mostly because it causes unpredictable oil consumption. I check my wife's 9-5 oil level every other week. My '99 Viggen burns none - ever.
$5 here and there for some synthetic oil now and then if you have that problem.
A spare DI cartridge is $300 (online) and should go in the trunk. There might be a t27 screwdriver in the toolkit already.
The sludge issue potential should be covered by warranty from Saab till atleast 2008 if I remember.
Out of my history of eight cars, only my 99 Viggen and 87 Mazda truck were the only vehicles which have never needed a tow. A 2002 Saab should be ever better than a 1999.
