Jill:
I had a '94. The deadbolt feature is on which is why you cannot unlock any of the doors and the alarm will always go off.
Deadbolt works when the key is placed in driver door (vertical orientation) and turned right 90 degrees (horizontal orientation). This locks the doors, alarms car, AND locks door pulls from being lifted. The key should be in that position when removed. The only way to undeadbolt is to place key in driver door, turn to left (135 degrees from far right to far left) as if opening door regularly.
If that does not work than there is a problem with alarm - door linkage and the best place to call is a SAAB dealer. There is a service tech, Bob, at International Motors (SAAB) in Falls Church VA (703-534-0770), who is great to work with. I have taken my SAABs over 500 miles to have them work on them.
Hope this helps.
