If the oil is coming somewhere in the back of engine I would take a long good look at around the valley between cylinder banks and especially the oil cooler banjo bolts. If they are coming loose, the oil will dribble down around the engine block and find its way out between transmission/engine.
If you find out that it is no other places than the rear main seal, I would just drop the transmission and replace the seal.
You don't need to touch the timing belt setup is you are working in the other end of engine.
