adaptation fault 72

I've got a 94 900S with the 4 cylinder 2.3L, 5 speed manual and 94k miles.
Last night, after sitting in snow bound rush hour traffic for an hour, the check engine light came. Since it has the original O2 sensor, I thought that this may be the culprit. But, pulling the fault codes, shows a 72 which apparently is along adaptation fault. Does anyone know what this means and how to go about further diagnosing it ? Thanks in advance.
