"self adjusting" clutch cable quit self adjusting

I have a '95 900se turbo with original clutch and 118k. I'm planning to sell it in the spring. I had a new clutch cable installed a few years back. I had been using the "pop the foot off the clutch" trick to "manually" adjust the self adjusting clutch cable. It always worked like a charm, until now. Have I reached the end of the line? Should I have the NAPA clutch installed? It's beginning to get that old familiar grind and thunk when dropping it into reverse, and the transition btw. 1,2,3 isn't nearly as smooth as it should be.
