starting problem, DIC, Throttle Body Control

While driving on the highway in late Sept, my 2001 9-3 stalled. It restarted, but in "limp-home" mode (with the CEL on and "TCS off" illuminated). The first time it did this, the dealer installed new software; the second time, they told me it was the throttle body control, which I assented to having replaced. At the time, it wasn't clear to me that they really understood what was going on, and reports related to the DIC recall sound suspiciously similar to mine.
I left the country shortly after the repair and consequently the car was driven very infrequently over the next 3 months.
Before and after this repair, I experienced the intermittent starting problem that has been described on this board: The car cranks, but will not start (typically after it has been run). When cold, it will start without hesitation.
From what I have gathered, the cause of this is likely the (relatively inexpensive) Crankshaft Position Sensor or possibly the DI Cassette.
Is it possible that the problems are related, and that my car and/or the tech at the dealer misdiagnosed the throttle body control problem as a DI Cassette problem?
Unfortunately, I don't have much confidence in the dealer and due to time and distance considerations can't take it anywhere else right now,
Any advice very much appreciated.
