A lot of this depends on your answer to some simple questions;

1. Do you still like the car?
2. Does the car still meet your needs?
3. What is your current and forseeable financial situation?
4. Are you proactive or a procrastinator?
5. How much work are you willing to do yourself?
6. Can you deal with some occasional downtime for repairs?
7. How much sludge is in the motor?

If you answer these questions honestly you will be headed in the right direction. A CPO has a 100,000 mile warranty, if I remember correctly, so you are asking this question way too soon

From my experience (have a 00 9-3 SE, and had a 94 900 SE for 12 years), you can drive this car to 150k or so without too much out of pocket, if you are willing to keep up with some pretty basic maintenance issues.

I could afford just about any new car, but that is not the point. I refuse to invest in depreciating assets any more than I have to. Money is much better off in a productive investment, like your home, education, or your 401k. Insurance and taxes are lower on an older car. So dont let your emotions send you to the new car showroom every 3 years like so many lemmings.
